William Anstine's Biography

William Anstine has been practicing law in York County since 1965 when he graduated from Dickenson School of Law and became a partner with his father, W. Burg Anstine, as the Anstine & Anstine Law Firm. He served as a public defender in 1968 and was engaged in criminal defense cases in the early stages of his career. Since 1968 Mr. Anstine has handled many personal injury cases and civil trials and that continues to be a major portion of his practice today. Attorney Anstine began a subspecialty in the field of wills and estates and that constitutes probably the biggest portion of his practice today along with real estate and municipal law. He has represented numerous boroughs and townships and continues to serve as solicitor for several zoning hearing boards including York Township and Manchester Township. Mr. Anstine has been actively involved with continuing legal education activities and has served on the CLE board of the York County Bar Association for 20 years. As part of that connection he has moderated many educational seminars and has also presented many lectures on topics involving ethics, civil trials and procedure. He has successfully argued cases in The Appellate Courts including Commonwealth Court, The Superior Court and The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Several of the appeals that he has won, particularly in the area of damages, have become the basis for legal doctrines that continue to influence the existing state of the law in those areas of litigation.

In addition to his practice in York County as a member of the York County Bar Association, Mr. Anstine has tried cases in most of the counties in the South Central Pennsylvania Area. Attorney Anstine was recently recognized by the Philadelphia Magazine as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in GENERAL LITIGATION under “Pennsylvania Super Lawyers 2005.” He has been a member of the Herbert B. Cohen Inn of Court and has served as President of that organization in 2006. He continues to remain a member of the executive committee and for several years he has led trips to England where members of the York “Inn” have visited the Inns of Court in London and observed trials at the Old Bailey and The Civil Courts of Justice. Mr. Anstine has been involved in many community activities having served as a member and President of the board for the American Red Cross and The York County Community Foundation. He has also served on boards and committees of numerous non-profit organizations including The United Way Budget Committee, The MS Society, and The York Historical Society and has been elected to leadership positions in several non public organizations. His leisure activities include tennis, biking, jogging, foreign travel and photography.
